More than 100 firefighters spend the night tackling Rutherglen blaze
More than 100 crew were sent to the scene at Bardonald Street, shortly after 18:00 on Thursday. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said 22 appliances and additional resources were dispatched.
Baronald Street, Dalmarnock Road and Farmeloan Road have all been closed in response to the fire.
The blaze is thought to have started in the basement of a Nisa convenience store on the ground floor of a four-storey tenement. Local residents are being advised to keep their windows closed.
SFRS said six appliances remained at the scene on Friday morning.
A spokesperson for the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) said the "skill, knowledge and commitment" of fire crews prevented the fire from spreading.
"A major incident like this is hugely resource-intensive and highlights the dangers of the proposed job cuts and station closures planned for Scotland's Fire and Rescue Service," the statement said.
