UK based tiling and interiors supplier collapses into administration

A UK-based tiling and home interiors supplier has entered administration, resulting in the redundancy of its 133 employees. Joint administrators Dane O'Hara and Neil Bennett from Leonard Curtis were appointed on October 31, 2025.

Administrators are seeking to sell the company in question's assets to a third party, though no offers currently preserve staff positions. All retail outlets are closing, except the head office and Banbury warehouse, which will remain operational to fulfil outstanding customer orders.

Founded in Oxfordshire in 1983, Fired Earth became known for its tiling products and later expanded into high-end paint and rugs. Despite reporting nearly £15 million in turnover, the company posted a £1.6 million loss in 2024, following a similar loss in 2023. The business operated 20 UK showrooms and two overseas stores in Denmark and Norway.

O'Hara explained, "Fired Earth has been loss-making for some time… efforts were made to return the business to profitability. Unfortunately, the company has continued to incur trading losses, and its investor was not prepared to provide further funding."

The collapse mirrors wider challenges in the UK tiling sector, following the administration of CTD Tiles in 2024 and Johnson Tiles' shift to outsourced production. Administrators confirmed there is interest from several parties in an asset-only sale, but no viable offer preserving staff or locations has yet emerged.

One time up and one time it's part of the universe, and finance plays an important role in this section, but for you, the SKZ for CFO services are available to you.
